August 29 to 7 September VII Glorious scenery

Our first two days on board The Canadian and our eyes and minds are drunk on the breathtaking scenery as we pass from the forested swampy land of Ontario into Manitoba and on into the prairies. We have been overwhelmed by the variety and density of the trees. So many different species of conifers - black and white spruce, firs, pines and larch. And the baffling birch, poplar and aspen! We are in the beginning of the Fall so tucked in amongst the myriad shades of green are hues of red orange rust gold yellow.
Here and there an isolated cabin on the edge of an island in the middle of a vast lake or tucked in amongst the trees along the shores of mirror-perfect lakes. And at dusk the darkening colours, shapes and reflections are breathtakingly beautiful. It is rather like travelling through a National Geographic documentary.

Ontario is a rocky swampy rocky province. Quite beautiful.

The dome car is fine - providing it’s not raining!

Awesome ancient rocks

And then we burst out into cultivated land, stretching on either side in large tracts of corn, wheat and ... ? Vast fields enclosed in grassland and relatively low-growing bushland with here and there a dense glade of deciduous trees. Open sky!
