| Chicks and ducks and geese better scurry ...... tra la la. |
Today we had planned to travel up the Bosphorus to a little fishing near the mouth of the Black Sea, but the boat was cancelled! So we hopped on another boat and went back out on to the Sea of Marmara instead and went riding in ‘a surrey with a fringe on the top’ on one of the most idyllic islands yet - Buyukada in the Princes’ Islands in the Sea of Marmara.

| The horses were changed at the top of the hill and allowed to romp in the woods close by. |
This island would have to be the perfect place to retire - no motorised vehicles allowed except a few service vehicles including some small police cars, but a lot of gorgeous horse-drawn carriages. It’s hilly with huge old timber houses spilling down the slopes to the water. It seems little-changed in 30 years except for more restaurants. After our 45-minute tour of the island in the surrey, we sat over a very long lazy lunch gazing out over the sea. It is as beautiful and restful as I remember it. Maybe the Bosphorus tomorrow ....
