October 11 Balley Hooley and beyond

Snowy Mountain National Park

Many days we just head out in a road to explore. This day we were heading for Buchan via Balley Hooley , you wha? This delightful place is on a loop in the mighty Snowy River. We walked down to the river and then lunched in the sun.

I think this area may once have been a mining/prospecting settlement; certainly there are lots of exotic flowers there.

Euphorbia

Elfin cap holding back a pretty flower

I wasn’t the only one enjoying the flowers

Not terribly attractive but the spikes must serve some purpose. This is a Solanum prinophyllum or Forest Nightshade.

Along the road on the way in to this pretty spot we stopped a number of times to tromp into the bush after a flier that caught our eye as we drove passed. Always slow going when you have an eye to the flowers or birds - but wonderful.

It’s not a native but I love these little plantains. The tiny flowers dance in the slightest breeze - they make me smile.

I don’t know what this furry plant it but this little snail seemed to like it.

Fringed lily - a fave.

Brunonia australia - native cornflower.

Viola betonicifolia. Such a mouthful for a faint wee flower.

Diuris sulphites - Tiger orchid. We have seen banks of these along the tracks. Lovely things

So many flowers I simply can’t name but I’m working in it - slowly.

Later that day we ended up in Buchan but the caves are still closed after fires and then floods caused a fair bit of damage.

All in all it was a gentle enjoyable day.

The entrance to one of the cave complexes has been constructed with rocks from the area bearing fossils.

Seed pods that attracted me - an acacia of some variety.
