Gunaikurnai

This is the story of this land of the first Gunaikurnai as I have read it - with thanks to those who shared this story. 

Borun, the pelican, was the first of the Gunaikurnai who came down from the mountains in the north. He was carrying a canoe on his head and as he walked he heard a constant tapping. Not knowing what it was he kept on walking through the forests and along the river systems. He created song lines and stories as he went. 

When he got down to the deepest inlets near Tarra Warackel (Port Albert) he put down his canoe and much to his surprise there was a woman in it. She was Tuk, the musk duck. Borun was very happy to see Tuk and they married and became the mother and father of the five clans, the creators of a Gunaikurnai.
