July 13 Simple food on the road!

Just to let you know that the chook (the Pinging Chook) is still operating but the recipes are pretty sparse and simple. Restricted to a one-burner stove, OR a small microwave when we have power (we have to close the stove to operate the microwave), and a tiny bar-fridge means that our menu is ‘simple’. We are on a cliff-top at Drumbeg where we were hoping for a good country pub meal but alas no, they were fully booked. What?!! This is a very remote place population 60. Oh well back to our cliff top camp (no electricity - eeek!). Tonight's fare is baked beans with mashed tatties and neeps with oodles of good Scottish cheeses. And wine - of course!! The sheep, which in these parts wander freely, circled our van overnight and kept us warm. Our backdrop tonight is stunning and worth the simple fare. It is so quiet except for the sound of the mountain stream rushing over rocks 50 metres away. It is awe-inspiring!
Two nights later we were camped near Lochgoilhead in Argyle with stunning mountain views and dining alfresco on fish pie (from the supermarket) with beetroot and potatoes - with loads of good Scottish butter! Interesting combination but it works. Oh and wine of course.
